Fashion week is a really big event, this event is important to the fashion industry because designers can showcase their new collections. The fashion week lasts approximately one week every six months. The brands or houses can display their latest designs and buyers can take a look at the latest trends. The most important thing is that the public will get to know what is in and what is out.
History of fashion week
During World War II the editor and publicity genius Eleonor Lambert decided to organize the Editorial Week, in which the American designers could display their clothes. Due to the Second World War the American designers couldn’t travel to Paris to see the designs. And so they created the New York fashion week in 1943.
Features of fashion week
Currently fashion weeks are big shows with singers, celebrities, magazine editors, photographers and television. The runway shows are organized months before the seasonbecause the magazines and vendors need time to include new collections. There is an autumn-winter fashion week and spring-summer fashion week.
There are also fashion weeks with special issues like prêt-a porter collections or swimsuit collections.
Major Fashion Capitals The most important cities for fashion are New York, London, Milan and Paris. But there are fashion weeks in many other cities such as Bogota, Miami and Caracas.
